The sun was setting above the trees, pink, purple and scarlet hues rising over the fain blue and dimming the sky, but filling it with beauty. The forest was shadowed and dark, the perfect time for a good hunt. Kiba padded softly through the trees, balancing her weight evenly upon all four of his legs so that her paws made only the slightest sound as they made contact with the twig and leaf littered forest floor. Her delicate ears were alert, and her gaze intent upon the thick brush in front of her. She then stiffened, and sniffed the air. The scent of an elk was coming from upwind, Kiba estimated somewhere near the Igazi River. He crouched low to the ground, his ears back against his silky head and his nose sniffing. He neared the scent, and soon spotted the cow elk next to the river, munching on a patch of
long grass, apparently oblivious to the wolf stalking her that was about to mean her death. As Kiba was almost at the edge of the bushes and about to show himself and go for the elk, another strong scent replaced the elk's. Startled, Kiba stepped back, and cracked a twig. The elk's head jerked up, and now sensing the danger of the predators closing in on her, abandoned the grass and started sprinting up the riverbank.
"No!" Kiba barked, and sprung out of the bushes, running at full speed after the fleeing elk. To her surprise and dread, a large, male cougar also leapt out of the brush which was hiding him, and went after the elk. But after a few moments, Kiba wasn't quite sure wether it was chasing her or the elk... and she didn't want to find out the hard way... The chase went on, and Kiba howled for help... hopefully one of her pack mates would come to her aid, but hopefully not to late...

As the sun sets Scarlet swims in the river hunting fish. After awhile her ears perk up and she turns to her right and sees her mother and she swims quickly to the river bank and shakes her fur and runs to her mother and says" Mother what are you doing here? You are supposed to be in your den back at camp. You heard Sapphire stay at camp." and her mother looks at her and says " Oh Scarlet, i hate being kept in the camp. I just came to get some fresh air" and she coughs a bit and Scarlet goes to her side and says "Thats it i'm taking you back to camp!" and she walks her mother to camp. After awhile of walking her mother said "Scarlet, you worry to much. Even your four siblings don't worry as much as you." and scarlet says " Thats because i was always an outsider and only you and Lavender and some times Claw ever treated me like i was normal wolf but others treated me like a outsider." her mother looked down and thought thats true even her siblings thought she was different and never played with her. They walk back to camp in silence and when they get there Scarlet's father and Sapphire ran to her mother and her father pushed her away like she was a enemy trying to hurt her mother. Scarlet looked down and ran into the forest. A tear streaked her muzzle and she shook her head and sniffed the air and smelled hares and she walked quickly but quietly to where they were and crouched in the tall grass where only her bright red eyes glowed. But at that moment she heard her Beta howl and she jumped up and the hares ran away but she was long gone running at full speed toward the howl. When she saw the beta she saw a cougar chasing her and she growl and jump down the upper part of forest and jumps in front of the cougar and barks. The cougar stops and looks at scarlet and she runs off with the cougar on her tail. As she ran she dove in to the bushes and jumped in to the nearest tree and the cougar climbed up and saw scarlet was already to far ahead and gave up when scarlet saw this she jumped out of the tree and panted a minute and then ran back to where the beta was

As Kiba was running, she had forgotten the elk and was terrified that no one would come to help her fight the cougar, because fighting was definitely what the chase would come down to. Then, as she was about to howl again, she saw Scarlet, a wolf of her pack run out of the woods and jump in front of the cougar. The cougar stopped, then ran after Scarlet as she leapt back into the woods. Kiba skidded to a halt, panting heavily. She stood for a second, to catch her breath, and then trotted after Scarlet and the Cougar, knowing that Scarlet was probably in trouble. But she was mistaken. As she followed their scent, she almost ran into the red she-wolf. "Scarlet! Are you all right?" she asked worriedly, sniffing Scarlet for blood. Scarlet was panting heavily and looked like she had run out of energy, but she did not seem hurt, just tired. and the cougar was nowhere in sight and it's scent was faint.

Scarlet look up at Kiba and said "No, I'm fine. All i had to do was run and jump into the trees and by the time it climbed up i was quite far away and it just gave up and left." since Scarlet was known very well for her speed and climbing ability that not many wolves could master the way she has. Scarlet looked at Kiba and said "How about you it's seemed to have been chasing you for awhile are you hurt Kiba?" Scarlet had a worried look in her face as she circled Kiba looking for any cuts or bruises.

"I'm fine. I'm just glad you're okay." said Kiba, a sigh of relief escaping her after the sentence. "We have to go back to the camp and warn the pack that there is a loose cougar in the territory. Then we can get a border patrol to go and try to chase it off. Thanks for coming when I howled." Then she started trotting toward the Cs'Ranthum Pack camp.

Scarlet smiled and said " I could never leave a wolf behind whos in trouble" and trotted after Kiba. As she walked with the beta she heard a loud roar and said " You go ahead. I'll find it and keep it away from camp." and with that she ran towards the roar hoping Kiba would be ok. as she neared the spot she saw the cougar with another cougar and she put a paw and her fore head and thought there just had to be two didn't there, well i'll keep them distracted so Kiba can get to camp safely. Then she saw the bigger cougar looking straight at her and she said " I'm dead, so very dead!". It creeped towards her and the other one stayed sitting and it seemed to be smirking and she said " Hey you stop smirking like that it's creeping me out." and it seemed to laugh at her and so did the other one. And scarlet's red eyes started to glow a bright red and she growled and the cougar leaped at her and scarlet thought No way am i losing to this cat! and she pounce at it and they started fighting and all she could think about was not letting them get to her pack

Kiba knew Scarlet was in really, really big trouble. She knew Scarlet would get hurt and she could not leave her behind. She ran after Scarlet and, with a fierce snarl, she attacked the cougar attacking Scarlet from behind and sank her teeth and claws into it's flesh. The cougar spun around, and, letting go of Scarlet, took a swipe at Kiba. It's huge paw hit the side of her face, it's claws raking her. She felt a pain unlike any other as one of the claws came across her left eye, and she yelped in pain. She let go of the cougar, and fell to the ground. Her face hurt so much and she couldn't see a thing out of her left eye. She almost blacked out, but thought about Scarlet still fighting the two cougars and got up. She then attacked the cougar again, and raked her claws across it's angry eyes. It yowled, and, blind for the moment, ran away. Kiba now turned of the female cougar, growling. She lunged at it, and fought it alongside Scarlet, who apparently had no fatal wounds at the moment.

Scarlet saw Kiba and thought no what happened to her eye. Scarlet growled and her paws were on fire and every time she scratched the cougar it yelps in pain and scarlet send fire onto the female cougars tail and turn the fire tempter to scalding hot. And it roared in pain and while she was watched it the male smirked and sunk it's claws into her back and she howled in pain and all of a sudden her whole body light up in fire and the cougar jump off of her and was whimpering in pain non stop and the female ran away and she kicked the cougar and said " Don't mess with me ad my pack again understand" and it nodded and ran away and scarlet ran to Kiba and said" Oh no it's all my fault" and she starts to lick Kiba's left eye.

Kiba "My eye... I think somethings really wrong with it... are you okay?" Said Kiba. Everything was dizzy, and she felt strange. Then, without warning, she blacked out. |

Scarlet quickly caught Kiba and put her on her back with the extra weight on her back where the cougar's large scratches were she was in very bad pain but she ignored the pain and ran to the nearest tree and jumped up it and then jump from tree to tree all the way to camp. when she got to camp sapphire and the shaman took Kiba and every one else looked at scarlet and growled at her and chased her out of the camp and scarlet ran out of camp and all the way to the old water fall and laid down and licked the huge claw marks on her back when she suddenly blacked out from blood lost

Kiba Kiba woke to the morning sunlight, the left side of his face feeling like it was masked, and aching terribly. She could also not see out of her left eye. She tried to lift herself to her paws, but she found that it was not only her face that was hurting. The shaman gently pushed her back onto the bed of moss, saying "You are too weak to rise just yet. You will stay here until I have told you otherwise." Kiba lay back down, but something wasn't right. "What... What's happened to my face?" She asked, even though she knew that she wasn't going to like the answer. The shaman sighed. "It... appears that a cougar clawed your face, leaving four scars. One is going across your left eye, and has severely damaged it. At the present moment, it appears as though you are bling in that eye. Kiba's heart skipped a beat. She couldn't believe it. She had always thought that she would always have good vision, and had never before thought that she would be blind in any way. She was devastated. But she knew that she had to be even stronger now. She would be respected less for this disability, and her pack still needed her. "Where's Scarlet? Is she all right?" She asked, remembering the red wolf who had fought the cougars with her. "Scarlet, that funny red wolf?" He said, laughing a little. "She carried you back to camp on her back, and went back into the forest. No one has seen her since last night..." Kiba lurched up, and, despite the pain, took a few steps toward the exit. The shaman tried to stop her, but she turned on him and growled. "Stay where you are. You will not be happy if you get in my way." Then she pushed through the exit, and bounded toward the woods. She panted and limped, but she soon found Scarlet's scent among the others and followed it into the forest. Before long, she came across the red she-wolf, laying near a waterfall, her fur caked with dry blood and desperately in need of medical care. "Scarlet!" She yelped, and rushed to her side. She gently picked her up by the scruff of her neck and dragged her to the pool under the waterfall, pushing her in. Kiba then stood by her, splashing the clear, fresh water on her and slowly cleaning off most of the blood. She then licked her many wounds, and hoped that she would soon wake. |

Scarlet feel really cold and starts to shiver non stop and her eyes flew open and didn't expect to be in water and she squirms around till she realizes shes in water and jumps out of the little pool and looks around and sees Kiba and see her eye and she says " Oh no, Kiba. It's all my fault" and she drops to the ground says " You can banish me i deserve it for letting that happen to you." even though scarlet was a delta she still felt ashamed that she let that happen to Kiba. All of sudden a dreadful pain strikes into her back and it starts to open again and starts to bleed. And Scarlet yelps and look at her back.

Kiba "It's not your fault." Said Kiba. "Cougars are vicious creatures, you did an amazing job fighting them. It was my choice to stay and fight with you, and I am the one who is to blame for letting that happen." Then Scarlet yelped, and Kiba saw that a large wound on her back had started bleeding heavily. "Stay still." Kiba said. Then she ran into the forest, colloected a bunch of moss, and brought it back to the waterfall. She placed it on Scarlet's back. "Ok, do you think you can make it back to camp? Once we get you there the healer can patch you up." |

Scarlet winced and looked at her back and said " It might hurt but i think i can with stand it." then looks back at Kiba and stood up and yelps and shook her head and walked by Kiba. She did her best to hide her pain but a moan of pain escaped her mouth every now and then. Scarlet always looked around makeing sure there was no trouble around.

Kiba Kiba trotted along beside Scarlet, letting the red she-wolf lean on her shoulder a bit. "We'll be there soon. Why didn't you stay in camp and report to the Shaman's den?" She asked, unsure why Scarlet had even been by the waterfall in the first place and not getting patched up. Maybe it's because they teased her. She thought. They're always teasing her because of her fur, and I don't know how to stop it. But I can't believe the pack would go so far as to do it when she was clearly hurt, and needed immediate medical care. |
